I was so incredibly honored when asked to participate in a discussion focusing on eating disorder recovery and athletes with Eat Breathe Thrive.
For anyone who knows me, it is no secret that I am in recovery for anorexia and bulimia. I started struggling with these disorders at the age of fifteen, and began my recovery journey at about seventeen years old. It has not been a ride full of rainbows and butterfly's, I struggle often, I mess up, I fall down, I cry, I get tired and frustrated, but, I can say with absolute certainty, that it has been worth it.
I will never consider myself fully recovered, it's a lifelong process, but I will say that my life is full of love, gratitude, beauty and growth. I learn a little more about myself every single day, and I am so thankful to be living and breathing in this path to healing.
I was happy to share this very important dialogue with Alison Heilig and Daneen Farrell. These strong and empowered women have also struggle with disordered eating and have their own incredible stories and perspectives to share. It is imperative that we begin to shine a light on this lonely and secretive disease.
